Our team works across a number of sectors including education, finance, charities & faith institutions as well as the public sector.

The role

Alder is looking for an Account Director to join its growing team. This client-facing role will suit someone with several years’ experience in an agency managing reputation, risk or crisis issues. 

The account director will work closely with senior colleagues to identify solutions to complex reputational issues while taking ownership of the day‑to‑day client delivery and developing trusted client relationships.   

In addition to the client-facing work, the AD will contribute to the identification and development of new services and take a key role in promoting them to prospective clients and partners to secure new projects.

Specific Responsibilities

Client work

  • Advise and support clients experiencing urgent crisis situations and reputational issues
  • Draft reputational risk and crisis readiness materials, such as written advice packs and crisis management protocols
  • Supporting clients on broader reputation, risk and change advisory assignments, including organisational change, governance, stakeholder engagement and reputational preparedness programmes.

Collaborating with others

  • Work with external advisers, including lawyers and other specialists, where needed, an understanding of the legal environment is important

Client management

  • Act as a main contact for key clients on day-to-day matters
  • Help manage project timelines and coordinate work across the team
  • Support junior team members and review their work where appropriate

Business development

  • Help identify opportunities for new work with existing and prospective clients
  • Propose ideas for new products and services that will help to broaden the agency’s remit
  • Contribute to new business pitches, including research, writing, and presentations
  • Take part in marketing activities, such as events, content, or networking
  • Speak at company or partner events
  • Write thought leadership pieces for the company’s channels or media outlets

Experience required

  • At least 3–4 years’ experience in a communications or advisory agency
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships independently
  • Experience of crisis communications, issues management, risk management or corporate reputation work
  • Experience working with legal teams and other external advisors
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail

Desirable

  • Interest in business development and contributing to marketing activity
  • Experience supporting or taking part in new business pitches
